You always take things seriously You’re making sure the road is paved before you take a step Making sure the scenery looks nice But me talking to you is like you talking to me I don’t wanna turn this into business Caution: contents under pressure Caution: contents under pressure I just need a release You don’t have to run in circles, there’s no race Why don’t you slow down and see what counts It comes to who was left, who the hell was left I can’t do you justice anymore Caution: contents under pressure Caution: contents under pressure I just need a release So let’s not dwell on the past Twas a chapter in a pact we wrote and froze in type, bold type Need to be more in touch to carry Need to be more in touch to carry me talking to you is like you talking to me I don’t want to turn this into work Caution: contents under pressure Caution: contents under pressure I just need a release Lyrics by Gregor, music by Gregor, Morlan, Fenton, Morlan

USA Today 03:51
The word is out at the Hop-In Grocery We’re heading into Marlboro country There are plenty of fifty cent burgers out there Trouble is they cost 4 bucks I’ll take a sulfite salad and a sodium dog In USA today It trickles down to the ultimate little guy Depends upon just how aggressive you are The cat used to fill up a shopping cart Walk right out the front door Yell out “The food’s on the table, boys,” In USA today More, more, more so we can have less, less, less More, more, more so we can have less, less, less So this is your choice for freedom, peace and progress World proven garden spot for MX peace in USA today It’s not so uncommon to go extinct Kill them little bugs dead It’s not so uncommon to go extinct Kill them little bugs dead It’s not so uncommon Let’s make our way to the Shoe Renew We’re sick of dying for your dollars We are asked to believe that you want peace Cuz you name the MX the peacemaker We’re walking out on the mail order cowboy In USA today Lyrics by Gregor. Music by Fenton, Gregor, Morlan and Morlan

Cut up my Visa, I pay with cash Sometimes I barter, maybe I beg I could find my banquet in a dispy dumpster Or serve you steak at a thousand a plate dinner I sign no receipts, or leave my prints Perchance on accent, perhaps a limp Living with an heiress or out on the street White collar r&d or selling meat Don’t try to call me, I have no phone Return to sender, address unknown You’ll never reach me, somewhile exile Polyester, or dressed in rags Just straight and narrow, or I zig zag Strut like a macho or else in drag Might be with a lover or I could be stag Possibly sixteen, I might look sixty My hair was long then, it’s shorter now I’ve groomed a moustache but my clothes aren’t loud Maybe not even a face in the crowd Don’t try to find me, I am alive No worse for wear, yeah I do survive See you around then, somewhile exile A fishing boat in the summertime, a ski resort in the fall A grocery checker in the the speedy line In front of a mission just biding my time Wire rim glasses, a blue headband Leather boy studs, construction duds Jogger’s tennis shoes or army boots Color coordinated three-piece suit Don’t try to call me, I have no phone Return to sender, address unknown You’ll never reach me, somewhile exile Return to sender, somewhile exile See you around then, somewhile exile (Gregor)

Capture this moment, it would make a nice picture You can be general, I’ll be specific I will seek you out, when I need a cup of midnight Almost any day, almost anytime You’re my fixation, close to constantly Please contact me most seriously, fixation One month without you, thinking ‘bout you always Coming on countdown, 24 hours I will have you here, no longer just a fantasy I don’t have to visualize, I don’t have to wait You’re my fixation, close to constantly Please contact me mysteriously, fixation It took me years to know what’s plain to see What other lovers were supposed to be I tiptoed in real slow I was the last to know Now we just overflow and it shows And it shows You’re my fixation, close to constantly Please contact me most seriously, fixation You’re my fixation, close to constantly Please contact me mysteriously, fixation (Gregor)

Regular Job 04:34
You were added to the human toll in May of ‘59 Number three son in a regimented family of nine 25436540829 Count your blocks and keep your place in line And get a regular job, find a regular wife Have a regular day, in your everyday life You were enrolled in parochial school in September ‘63 Yes, I estimate we can count on him to amount to something fine But salt and pepper loners never could quite fit in What’s wrong with you? You’re falling way behind To get a regular job, find a usual wife Have a uniform day in your work-a-day life Don’t rock the boat, repeat after me Don’t rock the boat Don’t make ripples on the water (You can make you join and run the race, even make you win, but they can never make you happy about it) You submitted to Safeco in June of ‘81 Ample fringe benefits, calculated retirement plan Keep up with the . . , go grab your piece of (grab it fast) I punch in in the morning, I punch out at night I’ve found my job I’ve got my place this time I’ve found a regular job, found a regular wife I have a regular day, in my everyday life Don’t rock the boat, repeat after me Don’t rock the boat, don’t make ripples on the water Lyrics by Gregor, music by Fenton, Gregor, Morlan and Morlan

Stress 03:53
So you’re finally coping with stress You can never avoid all the stress Starts in the morning when you’re late for work it builds right into the night But you can learn that there are danger signs And you can learn that there are danger times You better think about another way Don’t let the tension go and ruin your day Do minor problems throw you into a tither? And are you feeling trapped right now? Sometimes I try and hide it and sometimes I try and run from Anxiety, it’s an ever constant moving world It’s an always ever turning world But don’t let it get you down Destructive stress, trying hard to turn to distress Trying hard to make it rough to rest But you can turn it all around Go burn it up Let’s go and manufacture a crisis I want some adrenaline Manufacture a crisis I need some adrenaline So you’re finally coping with stress You can never avoid all the stress Add up the burdens and calculate strains till all you can feel is the pain You better learn to see the danger signs So you can ward off all the hazard times You ought to try to ease some mental weight I think you better lose some excess freight Do minor problems throw you into a tither? And are you feeling trapped right now Sometimes I try to hide it and sometimes I try to run from Anxiety, it’s an oscillating, weaving world It’s an always drifting, winding world But don’t let it get you down Destructive stress, trying hard to turn to distress Trying hard to make it tough to rest You can turn it all around So burn it up (Gregor)

She walked crazed through the neon glow If you can only keep this thing to yourself She can dance right by and never notice you there Nor hear a word that slips, see a wink that falls She makes no plans, just glides on through Night out on a rational town I wanna be irrational, see irrational Night out on a rational town I wanna dance irrational And the judge frowns so politely You can almost hear him choke He fancies himself on a health food kick Cuz he drinks his coffee black, smokes light cigarettes We gather here for different needs Inland Empire to Emerald City, here we go Inland Empire to Emerald City, here we go They suddenly hit you or seemingly leap you With more than frightening speed An endless array of struggles for power From the bottom of the heap to the top of the barrel Just walk on by, check it at the door Lyrics by Gregor, Music by Fenton, Gregor, Morlan and Morlan

Every day just seems a complication Everything just seems a hassle today Everything just seems a complication Every way just seems a problem today Up and down and sideways over, trying to sort the pieces out What goes here and what goes there and what to keep and what to throw out You’re not signing up, you’re just answering five simple questions We’re at the mercy of the moment I’m having trouble finding the focus Can never seem to keep it clear I just cannot stay aligned I’m having problems staying in time Here and there and halfway over We’ve been through all this before Let’s just throw away the façade What is real and what’s ulterior What do you mean, what do I think? What do you think I think? I mean you took my sanity level right up to the statute of limitations We’re at the mercy of the moment Lyrics by Gregor, music by Fenton, Gregor, Morlan and Morlan

You should know that when you play with fire Someday you’re bound to get burned I just want to stand in the fallout zone of your love Our love, is pyrotechnic Dangerous from the moment that I felt in contact I came Your kiss, intense and burning I get a special kind of heat that ain’t safe or sane You should know that when you play with fire Someday you’re bound to get burned I just want to stand in the fallout zone of your love Your eyes, they burn right through me Your breath on the embers in me Just heightens the flame We touch, it feels like arson And I get a dangerous kind of warmth That ain’t safe or sane You should know that when you play with fire Someday you’re bound to get burned I just want to stand in the fallout zone of your love I’m in the fallout, I’m in the fallout zone I’m in the fallout, I’m in the fallout zone You should know (Jan Gregor)

about

Next Exit Seattle, Washington

In 1981 Sweet Madness ditched Spokane for Seattle and changed their name to Next Exit.

The new lineup featured a more guitar-driven sound, with lead guitarist Greg Morlan replacing keyboardist John Robison.

For their first live show, they played at a Drive-In Movie Theater on the roof of the concession stand.

Static Cling was the first song they wrote with the new lineup.
