about

Originally a Sweet Madness song recorded in November 1980 and released on Made in Spokane Volume 2.

lyrics

Crawl out of bed, the radio’s blaring
I like to wake up to an old song sometimes
Sit up sip on little Miss Caffeine
She tastes so good when you first open your eyes
Wake up in the morning and I feel good

Jumped on the shuttle bus at 9:15
People always talk about the weather and the world
9:28 when I took my leave
Oh good, it’s raining it’ll make the rivers full
Get out in the evening and I feel good
Get out in the evening and I feel fine

The boys just get excited, I’d don’t have to explain
We ain’t no muscle manics, We ain’t no freebase mains
The boy’s just get excited, I don’t know why or how
But Johnny needs a sedative, Johnny needs a sedative

Walk off the street, four bucks at the door
They don’t spend the cover charge on room décor
Find a table, drink some red wine
The band’s about to play, I guess we got here on time
Stay out in the evening and I feel good

Home in bed the telephone’s ringing
I like to wake up to an old friend sometimes
I hope it’s my fortune teller
She makes it worth my while to open my eyes
Early in the morning and I feel good
Early in the morning and I feel fine

The boys just get excited , I’d don’t have to explain
We ain’t no muscle manics, We ain’t no freebase mains
The boy’s just get excited, don’t know why or how
But Johnny needs a sedative, Johnny needs a sedative

about

Next Exit Seattle, Washington

In 1981 Sweet Madness ditched Spokane for Seattle and changed their name to Next Exit.

The new lineup featured a more guitar-driven sound, with lead guitarist Greg Morlan replacing keyboardist John Robison.

For their first live show, they played at a Drive-In Movie Theater on the roof of the concession stand.

Static Cling was the first song they wrote with the new lineup.
