Originally recorded by Sweet Madness in March of 1981 in Spokane and released on Made in Spokane Volume 2. This version was recorded in Seattle and included on Next Exit's 1983 LP entitled Metropolitan West.

lyrics

I saw him grin, one hell of a grin
When he turned the screw
That fractured smile, just sealed my hate
For people like you
You’d have to have walked through the pain I felt
To understand the pleasure I feel

But I’m not vicious about it
I’m not vicious to you
I’m not vicious about it
I’m not vicious to you

I saw him swim and tightening in
Just circle the prey
Those razor teeth just ripped to the bone
And ended your day
You’d have to have swam in infested seas
To understand the treasure I’ve found

But I’m not vicious about it
I’m not vicious to you
I’m not vicious about it
I’m not vicious to you

I felt her long, tubular fangs, sink into my skin
Rearing her head up she struck me again and again
You’d have to have slept in a serpent’s den
To understand the freedom I’ve found

about

Next Exit Seattle, Washington

In 1981 Sweet Madness ditched Spokane for Seattle and changed their name to Next Exit.

The new lineup featured a more guitar-driven sound, with lead guitarist Greg Morlan replacing keyboardist John Robison.

For their first live show, they played at a Drive-In Movie Theater on the roof of the concession stand.

Static Cling was the first song they wrote with the new lineup.
