about

Next Exit was hired to write and record this anti-smoking song for a PSA. It helped them pay for truck rental in their move from Spokane to Seattle.

lyrics

They spent 800 million dollars this year
Trying to sell you a vice
You have a choice
Make your own decision

You're the best, so easygoing
The pleasure's back, the pleasure lasts longer
Weekends and me cuz you're the leader
One of a kind, always together

You've come a long way, baby
You're the first, the one and only
Where a man belongs with the total woman
There's only one way to play it

Stop! Least go think about it
Don't sell your health so cheap
Suicide on a long range payment plan
You have a choice, make your own decision

No need to smoke, you don't want it
Ah come on, you don't need it
I've got a lust for living
I've never felt better in my whole life

No need to smoke, you don't want it
Ah come on, you don't need it
I've got a lust for living
I've never felt better in my whole life

I've got a lust for living
I've never felt better in my whole life

They spent 800 million dollars this year
Trying to sell you a vice
You have a choice
Make your own decision

about

Next Exit Seattle, Washington

In 1981 Sweet Madness ditched Spokane for Seattle and changed their name to Next Exit.

The new lineup featured a more guitar-driven sound, with lead guitarist Greg Morlan replacing keyboardist John Robison.

For their first live show, they played at a Drive-In Movie Theater on the roof of the concession stand.

Static Cling was the first song they wrote with the new lineup.
